With the passage of time, many women and men in Charlotte may become unhappy with the appearance of the lower eye area. Sagging skin, unwanted deposits of stubborn fat or the appearance of “eye-bags” may affect the look of the undereye area. The skin in the eye area is thin and delicate, so signs of aging may appear here even as the rest of your appearance remains youthful. People may feel that they look tired or sad due to the drooping or sagging appearance of the under-eye area.

A lower eyelift procedure, or a lower eyelid blepharoplasty, can help to restore a taut, youthful look to the under eye and cheek area, restoring confidence and pride in a person’s appearance. Over time, fat collects beneath the eyes, giving a puffy appearance that may make you look tired or sleepless, although you are actually awake and healthy. You may begin to develop puffy or sagging lower eyelids as early as your mid-20s. At Queen City Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Enam Haque can work with you to develop a surgical plan to eliminate or minimize the look of under-eye “bags,” restoring your youthful appearance.

How Does the Lower Eyelift Procedure Work?

During a lower eyelid blepharoplasty, your plastic surgeon will make a small incision on the inside of the eye or directly below the eyelashes. These small incisions are precisely placed to minimize scarring, heal quickly and remain undetectable. Dr. Haque may also recommend combining your procedure with dermal fillers or fat transfer in order to further enhance the youthful appearance of your under-eye area.

During the procedure itself, Dr. Haque will remove or change the position of the fat in your lower eyelid area to restore a natural, smooth contour. In some cases, excess skin may be removed. Depending on the extent, your lower eye lift will be performed at a local hospital to provide you with the safest environment while you undergo the procedure. In most cases, you may expect to see the long-term results of your lower eyelid procedure soon after the procedure.

What is Recovery Like After a Lower Eye Lift?

Dr. Haque will provide you with a detailed recovery plan following your lower eyelid lift. Most patients may expect to see full recovery within 10 days to two weeks. During your recovery period, make sure to get plenty of rest and avoid activities that may be strenuous to the eyes, such as reading, using your smartphone or watching TV. You can help to prepare for your lower eyelid blepharoplasty by stocking up on audiobooks, music, and other aural entertainment options. During your recovery, you may be advised to use pillows to prevent bruising and allow any swelling or edema to drain.

Dr. Haque will see you again after the procedure to ensure you are recovering well and remove sutures if necessary. If you typically wear contact lenses, you may need to switch to eyeglasses for up to two weeks after your procedure. Dr. Haque will give you detailed advice about when you can begin to wear your contacts again. At Queen City Plastic Surgery, our team is committed to supporting you through a comfortable recovery.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Lower Eye Lift?

North Carolina adults who want to restore a youthful look to the undereye area or eliminate “eye bags” may be excellent candidates for a lower eyelid lift. Most people who opt for lower eyelid surgery are over 35, but younger adults may also want to consider the procedure if you show signs of aging earlier or know that you have a family tendency to develop a sagging under-eye area. You must wait for a year after LASIK surgery to complete this procedure, and special precautions may be necessary if you have Graves’ disease or another thyroid condition. Before moving forward, Dr. Haque will provide you with a detailed medical analysis and recommendation for your surgery.
