Mommy Makeover

There is no doubt that the so-called “mommy makeover” has become extremely popular recently, but what exactly is it?

The Mommy Makeover

Instead of thinking of a mommy makeover as a single procedure, think of it as a series of procedures that your surgeon performs in one surgical session to enhance the appearance of areas affected by childbirth.

The set of specific procedures performed during a mommy makeover is an individual matter, but may include:

  • Liposuction
  • Tummy Tuck
  • Breast lift or augmentation
  • Breast reduction
  • Brazilian Butt Lift

The specific combination of procedures performed in your own mommy makeover can be determined during a consultation with your plastic surgeon.

A minimum of six weeks after giving birth is needed before your mommy makeover can be performed.

Patients are advised to wait until they have finished having children before undergoing a mommy makeover since a future pregnancy will undo your mommy makeover’s results.

Why undergo a mommy makeover?

While you are pregnant, your abdominal muscles and skin will be stretching to make room for your growing baby. Although you can lose weight with diet and exercise after pregnancy, your skin and muscle may not snap back, leaving you with unsightly sagging skin and abdominal bulge. In this case, a mommy makeover can improve the areas that are unresponsive to diet and exercise.

It is important to recognize that a mommy makeover procedure is not performed to cause weight loss.

What is recovering from a mommy makeover like?

The answer varies, depending upon the specific procedures involved with your individual mommy makeover. The following is a general guide to the mommy makeover recovery period:

Mommy Makeover Recovery

You should make arrangements for someone to drive you home from Queen City Plastic Surgery and stay with you for 24 hours after your surgery.

Set aside two weeks to take off from work. Avoid vigorous physical activity for six weeks. You’ll be prescribed pain medication and cannot drive for at least one week.

You will be advised to sleep on your side or back and elevate your feet and upper body. Many mommy makeover patients sleep on a recliner while they are recovering.

Your plastic surgeon will schedule a number of post-operative appointments to check on your progress after your mommy makeover surgery. Feel free to contact them at any time between these appointments if you have any questions or concerns.

A mommy makeover involves multiple surgical procedures that require a significant recovery and downtime period. You can expect to experience soreness and swelling for up to six weeks after you are released, with up to a three-month recovery period.
