Introduction to Liposuction

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical body-contouring procedure we offer our Charlotte clients to remove excess fat from specific areas of the body.

It is not a weight loss method but rather a sculpting tool used to refine and enhance your natural shape. Using a small tube, called a cannula, we can suction fat cells beneath the skin to create a smoother, slimmer contour for our clients.

Who Are the Best Candidates for Liposuction?

Liposuction is best suited for healthy adults who are generally satisfied with their weight but want to enhance their appearance. This procedure is highly effective in reshaping and slimming body contours, but it is not a substitute for weight loss and should not be used to treat obesity. However, health, rather than weight or age, is the most important factor in determining whether you are a good candidate for the procedure.

Liposuction can be appropriate for any Charlotte, NC, adult who is concerned about stubborn fat deposits that do not diminish with diet or exercise. It can have the best effects if you are already within 30 percent of your goal weight. In addition, it is important for people to set realistic goals for what liposuction can accomplish. How Can You Prepare for Liposuction?

Dr. Haque will provide you with a comprehensive plan to help you prepare for your procedure, including the type of liposuction to be performed and the potential use of other body-contouring procedures, such as BodyTite or FaceTite. The procedure itself will be performed on an outpatient basis at the convenient Charlotte offices of Queen City Plastic Surgery. In most cases, your procedure will be performed under intravenous sedation or another type of anesthesia, and it will take one to two hours.

After your procedure, the areas where you received liposuction will be wrapped in compression bandages. These bandages can help to minimize swelling and support your recovery after your procedure.

What Can You Expect At a Liposuction Consultation?

During liposuction, your Charlotte plastic surgeon uses a thin, straw-like object called a cannula to remove fat from a targeted area. The cannula is connected to a liposuction machine and inserted into the layer of fat beneath the skin. Using a tumescent solution, Dr. Haque manipulates the cannula to remove excess fat. Your plastic surgeon can reshape those areas to help restore a slim, taut appearance and rejuvenate your body’s contours.

Liposuction Recovery

Your Guide to Post-Liposuction Care

Dr. Haque will discuss your detailed recovery protocol in advance. While you do not want to put unnecessary strain on the treatment areas, walking and other light movement can help enhance your recovery. In most cases, you can resume light exercise in 3 days after your procedure. The compression garments you wear for approximately three weeks can also help improve your recovery and support the targeted areas. In general, liposuction incisions are small and heal quickly; Dr. Haque takes great care in their placement to render them nearly unnoticeable.

After your liposuction procedure, you may still gain weight. Many satisfied patients report that this weight does not necessarily settle in targeted areas and may actually be more evenly spread through the body. By maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine, you can ensure your results are long-lasting.
