Many people want to eliminate unwanted deposits of stubborn fat on the upper arms. Even with diet and exercise, it can be difficult to achieve a fully toned appearance in this area, and many people may also struggle with sagging skin after weight loss, or due to heredity or aging. Several options can help you achieve the toned upper arm appearance that you desire with minimal downtime and discomfort. At Queen City Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Enam Haque can recommend the best options for fat reduction for your upper arms.

An arm lift, or Brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape and improve the appearance of the upper arms and connecting area of the chest wall.   It involves reducing excess skin, tightening supportive tissue underneath and removing excess fat. This option can transform the most, however, it has the longest downtime and may result in scarring.

Liposuction is a popular plastic surgery procedure that can remove unwanted fat by suctioning it from the body. It can remove larger volumes of fat efficiently and in a precisely targeted manner, and the results are visible immediately. The final improvement in the area is best seen three months to a year after the procedure. Skin tightening is not part of the liposuction procedure. Without additional treatment for sagging skin, some patients may continue to experience dimpling in targeted areas, especially those who are older or who have reduced elasticity in the skin.

BodyTite is a newer, minimally invasive procedure that is designed for fat reduction and skin tightening at the same time by using radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL) technology. Radio-frequency technology is used to liquefy fat cells, rather than suctioning them from the body. This minimally invasive procedure does not involve large incisions or surgery. Some results can be seen immediately, but as eliminated fat cells are removed from the body naturally, it can take around three months to more fully appreciate the effects of fat reduction with BodyTite. The skin tightening effects of BodyTite stand out, as it can tighten skin 40% more dramatically than traditional liposuction.

In general, you can expect that BodyTite will leave behind only minimal scarring with little to no downtime. When using BodyTite for upper arms, it is possible to remove some liquified fat immediately while tightening skin, producing instantly visible results.

What is the recovery time for BodyTite and liposuction for upper arms?

Depending on the extent of your BodyTite procedure, you may be able to return to work immediately, or you may want to take two days for downtime.  Dr. Haque will give you specific aftercare instructions. No matter what the option, your recovery, and results may be aided by wearing a compression garment. With BodyTite, you would typically only use compression for two weeks after your procedure, but you can expect to wear a compression garment for up to six weeks after an arm lift or liposuction alone.

What results can you expect from BodyTite?

Results from each treatment vary by patient. Dr. Haque will examine your medical history and provide detailed recommendations about what you can expect from each procedure. In each case, you can expect to achieve results after only one treatment, and your final results will be more fully visible in three months after the procedure is completed. BodyTite can effectively eliminate stubborn fat deposits and achieve exceptional skin tightening results, while liposuction can remove larger volumes of fat but does not, on its own, provide tightening of the skin.

At Queen City Plastic Surgery, your Charlotte plastic surgeon Dr. Haque may recommend a combined approach that uses both BodyTite and traditional liposuction to remove larger volumes of fat while contouring and tightening the skin. You may also be able to achieve all of your goals with the minimally invasive option of BodyTite for the upper arms.
